LOOK: Barbie and Ken Reimagined as Filipinos – Complete With Barbiefied Jeepney and Bahay Kubo

With the ongoing Barbie hype today (thanks to the recently released Barbie movie), NeoLabs AI jumped into the trend by giving its own twist to the iconic doll. The AI content creators reimagined Barbie–and Ken, too–as Filipinos! They even gave the duo their very own Barbiefied bahay kubo and jeepney–in contrast to the Barbie Dreamhouse and her convertible car.

The idea of creating this Pinoy version of Barbie and Ken was to create “something we missed growing up: a Barbie that looked like us, living in a dollhouse inspired by our beautiful Filipino heritage,” founders Paolo Astudillo and Jannah Sandico told us in an interview.

“Using AI, we began sketching a unique Filipino-Barbie universe,” they elaborated. “Imagine Barbie’s home with the warmth of the traditional Bahay Kubo, or her wardrobe filled with elegant Filipiniana and dignified Barong Tagalog,” and that’s the idea that they brought to life through the AI-generated images.

According to them, “It was like crafting a piece of our own childhood dream, painting our culture into the beautiful canvas of the Barbie world.”

More than just a project, NeoLabs AI said these artworks are “a love letter to our heritage and to every Filipino kid who ever wanted their own Filipina Barbie.” Check out their Facebook post below!

The newly-launched company also shared that they plan to put out more content that focuses on Filipino culture, so that’s something to look forward to!
