Linked by Legacy, and Leading Through Adversity – Mu Week 2020 : #NEXUS

The Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority celebrated their annual Mu Week last August 20 – September 20, 2020, with this year’s theme – #NEXUS: Linked by Legacy, Leading Through Adversity. In the past years, Mu Week was usually held in the grounds of UP Manila College of Medicine. However, due to the constraints brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Mu Week 2020 had to be revamped and was mostly held online.

All throughout Mu Week 2020, MU ROCK: Stripped, an online cover series was released every Saturday featuring hit songs and performed by the Brods and Sisses with their artistic talents. In total, five covers were released which garnered more than 15,000 views in Mu Week 2020’s Facebook page.

Each week commemorated one of the four Pillars of the Mu Sigma Phi. The first week celebrated the brand of self-denying Service through these events:

LUKSO ng DUGO – a bloodletting activity for the benefit of the PGH Blood Bank
ImMUnity : Bakunadong Bayani – a vaccination donation drive for the frontliners in the Philippine General Hospital

During the second week,  the Mu Sigma Phi commemorated the legacy of Leadership through MEDley: Endless Opportunities in Medicine, an online career expo for the medical students in the UP College of Medicine. Around 250 participants tuned in live and more than 2,000 views were received through the Facebook page to the event which featured the Brods and Sisses, highly regarded in their own field, sharing their own perspective on the different career paths in medicine.

Meanwhile, the third week commemorated the Scholarship that is shared in the Mu Sigma Phi through Kaya MU Ba? – An online general information quiz show. The event was held to welcome the newest members of the UPCM community, the UPCM Class 2025. Out of the 180 members from the Class 2025, 100 participated and enjoyed a night of camaraderie with their fellow classmates.

For its final week, the timeless Brotherhood and Sisterhood of the Mu Sigma Phi was commemorated by Fiesta at the Hut, a feast for the hardworking Brods and Sisses in the Philippine General Hospital.

To formally end the Mu Week 2020 celebration, a thanksgiving mass was held on the last day, September 20, 2020 via Zoom and Facebook live in the Mu Week 2020 page.

Through the hard-work and support of the Brods and Sisses of the Mu Sigma Phi, the turnout for the first ever online Mu Week was highly successful. Truly linked by legacy, and leading through adversity – Mu Week 2020: #NEXUS is one for the books.
