A-B-Seas is a three-day experiential learning activity in Calatagan, Batangas that teaches the basics of marine ecosystems and biodiversity, connects people to nature, and teaches leadership and transferable skills to pursue an advocacy. It runs for seven weekends from May-August, and each weekend’s program is tailored to specific age groups.
A-B-Seas is a project of Save Philippine Seas (SPS).
“A-B-Seas was inspired by the Sea and Earth Advocates (SEA) Camp, a program SPS has been running since 2015 in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines. In the SEA Camp, we train youth who are 18 to 23 years old, and we’ve witnessed them take on larger leadership roles in their communities since the SEA Camp ended,” shares Anna Oposa, Executive Director of Save Philippine Seas. “Now, we want to work with younger audiences to create a generation of proud and proactive ‘seatizens.’”
A-B-Seas is for people interested in marine conservation, but don’t know where to start. The activities are designed to increase awareness and knowledge on the marine environment’s status, issues, threats, and solutions. It is also for people who want to make a difference, but feel overwhelmed by the issues. Activities include writing letters to leaders, stargazing, snorkeling, and workshops.
