Lea Salonga turned to social media to celebrate her son Nic Chien’s 20th birthday.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Lea expressed her overflowing pride and support for her son, who is currently carving his own path as an actor and a visual artist.

“20!!! Already!!! To say that I’m proud of this young man would be the understatement of the year; this human is kind, funny, sensitive, empathetic, and so much fun!” she wrote.
She also shared that she has been the “luckiest momma” to Nic.
“My babes, there are so many adventures waiting for you this year, and even more to come later on. With rigor, focus, healthy humor, and a solid work ethic, your dreams will come true and you’ll have a blast in the process,” she said.
“Until then, enjoy today! Momma loves you so much! I am the luckiest one in the world to be your momma!” she added.
The award-winning theater star has always used her voice to express her support for her son. In January 2026, she stressed the importance of loving your child without conditions and reservations.
“To those who do not have kids, if you think you will not be able to love your child if they come out to you—if they say ‘mom, I’m lesbian, bisexual, or trans,’ if under those conditions your love will stop, do not have children [and] save yourself the drama and heartbreak. If hindi mo kaya, wag na lang (If you can’t handle it, don’t have kids,” she said during a media conference for Les Misérables: World Tour Spectacular.
Nic Chien is an emerging theater actor who has appeared on local and international stages, including Into the Woods and Spring Awakening.
