Kim Chiu took to social media to oppose mining and construction in the Sierra Madre as Typhoon Uwan continues to bring devastation to Luzon.

On X, Kim Chiu shared how the mountains continue to safeguard us from the harmful effects of typhoons and flash floods.
“Araw-araw tayong pinoprotektahan ng mga bundok, laban sa bagyo, baha, at matinding init. Tahimik lang silang nakatayo, walang hinihinging kapalit, pero patuloy silang nagbibigay ng buhay, ng hangin, ng ginhawa,” she wrote.
The actress also urged authorities to take action before it’s too late.
“Sana ganun din ang gawin ng mga nasa itaas. Sana marinig nila ang sigaw ng kalikasan bago pa man maging huli ang lahat,” she stated.
She also emphasized that we should do our part in protecting the mountain ranges in Luzon as they provide natural protection and stability during natural disasters.
“Hayaan silang maging sila — ang mga bundok na bumubuhay, ang mga bundok na tahanan ng maraming nilalang, ang mga bundok na nagsisilbing proteksyon ng Luzon at ng buong sambayanan. #Saveourmountains,” she said.
“No to mining. Walang konstruksyon. Walang pagwasak. Kung kaya nilang protektahan tayo, kaya rin nating ipaglaban sila,” she added.
Super Typhoon Uwan made landfall on Sunday evening, November 10, in Aurora. This left parts of Luzon gravely affected after the typhoon brought strong winds and torrential rains.
However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported in its 5:00 AM bulletin that Uwan has weakened and is now over the coastal waters of Luzon. The storm downgraded from a super typhoon to a typhoon after crossing Luzon’s landmass, including the Sierra Madre mountain range.
