Kids, at an early age, already have big dreams like starting their own businesses in the future. Some even take the initiative of starting as soon as today with little deals, such as selling lemonade or home-made cookies to neighbors or passers-by on the streets.

If you see that your kid has that passion and eagerness to learn the basics of business and believes in their dream of becoming successful in the business world someday, I would recommend you let your child participate in the annual Kiddo-preneur Bazaar.

Established in 2011 by Maiki Oreta with her daughter, Brielle, Kiddo-preneur bazaar aims to teach kids the importance of business and develop their entrepreneurial and interaction skills needed to be successful. The concept behind this bazaar came from the lemonade stand from the US. But since this is a kid-oriented event, they prioritize the child’s happiness while training them to be the next Henry Sy or Manny Pangilinan of our country.

The event hopes to instill in the kids’ hearts core values of entrepreneurship where Kids Earn, Save, Invest and Donate.

Last May 31, the Kiddo-preneur Bazaar 2014 was held at the Robinson’s Place Manila where kids aged 4-17 got to experience what it’s like to have a business firsthand while having fun and enjoying the experience. You can read the happenings of last year’s event here: Kiddopreneur Bazaar 2013

Innovation and originality of each participant were seen in every booth as they offered their products, ranging from the classic all-time favorites to the bizarre and interesting finds. From salivating food stalls to cutesy accessories and fashion lines, cool shirts and colorful sweets and candies, the children had a lot to offer their customers who happily purchased their products. The kids also applied their interaction skills as they personally overlooked their respective stalls.

And yes, Kiddo-preneur allows free access for all. It was a sure win for the mall-goers during that day who also wanted to visit and check out the bazaar where kids earn.

During the press conference, the panel stressed the importance to not just let kids earn, but also teach them the value of money. They believe that by showing the kids how to make their own money grow and be financially-literate this early will enable them to learn how to handle mistakes and disappointments later on down the line.

Also, they wanted to challenge them to be more creative and innovative of their products so that when they get to their adulthood, their trial-and-error stage will be done and they will gain more confidence in continuing their businesses. Kiddo-preneur also aims to get kids involved in business to keep them interested; to inspire them to dream big and even bigger; and to believe that they can reach the top through their patience, optimism, self-motivation, collaboration with others, innovation of their ideas and bravery in taking risks.

Kiddo-preneur will be having its next leg on November 23 at the New Glorietta Activity Center. Aside from this bazaar, there is also the Kiddo-preneur field trip, which is geared to teach kids about entrepreneurship, money and manufacturing. Also upcoming is the Kiddo-preneur Show, which Maiki will host.

In the end, everybody (especially the kids) went home with smiles on their faces and the joy of accomplishment. The kids were commendable for stepping up and joining the event, as were the parents who supported their children in the fulfilment of their dreams in every way.
