South Korean police stated that her body was found in her home. Sulli, whose real name was Choi Jin-ri, was reportedly discovered by her manager in her home in Seongnam. Her manager, Soompi, had visited her home after being unable to contact her. The last time they talked is supposedly a phone call they shared at 6:30p.m the night before on October 13.

While the exact cause of death is still under ongoing investigation, the police released in a statement that the K-pop star had been suffering from “severe depression.” Different reports from Korean media also make mention of the cyberbullying and harassment that Sulli was forced to undergo. It was severe enough for her to take a hiatus from her career in 2014, citing physical and mental exhaustion as reasons for the break.

Fans and fellow industry members alike were taken by surprise at the news. Boy group Super Junior, who is in the midst of their comeback, has already canceled an upcoming live broadcast. Fellow f(x) member Amber Liu also announced a hold on her upcoming activities in the meantime.
