Journalists and Celebrities Honor the Legacy of Late Mike Enriquez

Following the passing of veteran broadcast journalist and GMA Integrated News pillar Mike Enriquez on Tuesday, August 29, his colleagues and other celebrities remembered his legacy in the industry for more than 50 years.

Kapuso news anchors, such as Arnold Clavio, Mariz Umali, and Atom Araullo, took to social media to pay tribute to the late veteran broadcast journalist.

On Instagram, Clavio uploaded a video of himself and Enriquez dancing to Savage Love. He captioned, “Paalam aking Ama, kaibigan, mentor, kasabwat, boss at higit sa lahat ‘tagapagtanggol’.”

Meanwhile, Araullo bid farewell through an Instagram Story, “Paalam, Sir Mike.”

Couple and Kapuso news anchors Mariz Umali and Raffy Tima also penned a touching message to their godfather. Umali shared their wedding photo with their “Ninong Mike,” while Tima recalled his coverage of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 with the latter.

Sandra Aguinaldo said in her post that Enriquez often interacts with reporters in the canteen of GMA. “One time, nakasama ko sya sa 24 Oras anchoring duty, he made me feel comfortable. Hindi ka kakabahan na icon yung katabi mo,” she added.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Howie Severino talked about their previous coverage in Iraq “on the eve of the US invasion.” He emphasized how Enriquez anchored the news remotely and did a “memorable story” about the challenging event.

In an article published on PhilSTAR Life, Jessica Soho recalled the memories he shared with Enriquez for almost 30 years of working together.

ABS-CBN news anchor Karen Davila took to her Facebook account to honor Enriquez, who she described as down-to-earth, funny, and easy to work with. 

On the day of Enriquez’s passing, Noli de Castro and anchors of TV Patrol sent their condolences on air.

“Nakikiramay po ang TV Patrol at ABS-CBN sa pamilya ni Mike Enriquez,” de Castro said.

On the other hand, celebrities Dingdong Dantes, Garry Valenciano, Yasmien Kurdi, and Ogie Alcasid also paid tribute to the 71-year-old.

According to GMA Network, Enriquez’s family will hold a public wake on Saturday, September 2, at the Christ The King Parish, Greenmeadows in Quezon City, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
