Of the 5000 festivals in Mexico per year, the Day of the Dead is one of the most captivating ones – at least for an outsider. Who wouldn’t be fascinated? Instead of seeing terrifying monster masks, and large pumpkins which are common sights during Halloween to scare uss, the major theme of the Day of the Dead are the funny-looking skeletons and lively skulls.

The humor and fun injected in these prominent figures are a way for Mexicans to just laugh at the idea of inevitable death. The afterlife is not as dreadful as one might think, after all. The festive occasion is a time to share memories and be reunited with the spirits of loved ones who return once a year. This mixture of comedy and tragedy reflects in Posadas’ engraving of what has been the festival’s icon, the beautiful skeletal CatrÃna.
Some ladies and gentlemen made an effort to authentically look like the skeletal yet elegant Catrina. From the garlands down to the elaborate makeup and chic dresses, some girls just knew how to dress like Catrina. Guys killed them too.
Though some party goers deviated from the theme of the fiesta and dressed up for Halloween instead, they still wowed the crowd with their unimaginable costume and eerie attire.  So, who was the best dresser of the night?
What do you think of the Day of the Dead?
