“Filipinos are one of the strongest most resilient people I know. Yung babangon kahit anong sakuna. Kakayaning tumawa kahit anong delubyo ang dumaan. How we show up for each other never fails to move me,” she wrote.
“But this shouldn’t be our only story,” she added.
The actress then reflected on how, despite this resilience, there are still those who fail to do their part in ensuring that Filipinos are protected during natural calamities.
“Most of the time I can’t help but ask..was it the intensity of the typhoon? Pwede kayang hindi ganito kalala? Kasi taon-taon naman tayong binabagyo. Or was it the failure of those who were meant to protect us? What part did we play in this?” she reflected.
Two typhoons have caused extensive damage across the country this November. Typhoon Tino affected residents in Cebu, Negros Occidental, Leyte, and other nearby provinces, while Super Typhoon Uwan brought strong winds and torrential rains to several parts of Luzon.
As she prayed for the healing and recovery of those severely affected by the recent typhoons, she stressed that these devastations should serve as a wake-up call.
“To those who could’ve done more to prevent this…may this be your wake-up call,” she concluded her post.
In September, Jodi Sta. Maria was among the celebrities who joined nationwide anti-corruption protests, standing with the Filipino people in demanding transparency and accountability.
