The Area 2 eatery, well-loved by students, professors, alumni, and even bar exam reviewees, announced the news through a Facebook post on September 25, 2025. Reactions quickly poured in, with many expressing their sadness and sharing fond memories of meals spent at the humble spot along J.P. Laurel Street.

What began in the early ‘70s as a hobby and side business grew into a 52-year-old campus landmark. Known for their affordable lutong-bahay meals, refreshing fruit shakes, and crowd-favorite bilao orders, Jing’s became a go-to for anyone in and around the university.

“No one imagined this karinderia would grow into a 52-year-old landmark,” Team Lutong Bahay wrote in their farewell post. “We’ll still be selling your favorites up to the last day.”

The team assures their loyal customers that this is not a permanent goodbye, hinting at bigger and more sustainable plans in the works. In the meantime, they’ll continue accepting dine-in and advance orders through their social media until the official closure date.

If you’ve ever been part of the UP Diliman food scene—or just want to experience a slice of campus history—now’s the time to pay one last visit.
