’90s kids definitely remember Meteor Garden, the Taiwanese series that came out in 2001.
The series followed Shan Cai, a girl from a humble background who studies in a university for rich students. She encounters F4, a group of handsome but arrogant students. The gang is made up of Dao Ming Si, Hua Ze Lei, Xi Men, and Mei Zuo.
Shan Cai was played by Barbie Hsu and the F4 was portrayed by Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu.
Earlier this month, Yan and Wu had a mini-reunion when they appeared in an episode of the Chinese variety show Welcome Back to Sound.
Watch it below:
During their appearance, Yan and Wu talked about their time together in F4 and their friendship after the show.
According to the blog 38jiejie, they felt like the group disbanded because there were feelings of “jealousy, envy, negative emotions, and more.” The blog added that breaking up “was actually a sigh of relief for them because it felt like it was time.”
Wu is noted to have said, “we were actually not particularly happy near the end.”
Yan and Wu were asked when all of four of them last met, and Yan said it was around four or five years ago at Wu’s house.
The boys also recorded a Chinese New Year greeting for Zhou and sang Penny Tai’s “Ni Yao De Ai,” the ending song of Meteor Garden.
The show is an adaptation of the Japanese shōjo manga series Boys Over Flowers. It also had other movies and series focusing on their story: the sequel Meteor Garden II, Hana Yori Dango (both a movie and a series), Hana Yori Dango Returns, Hana Yori Dango Final, Boys Over Flowers, and a Meteor Garden remake in China. A Thai adaptation called F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers is currently airing.
