New K-Drama alert! IU and Byeon Woo-seok will star in a new drama together.

On December 2, Kakao Entertainment announced that both Korean stars have been cast as leads in MBC’s upcoming drama with the working title Wife of a 21st Century Prince.
Wife of a 21st Century Prince is a romance drama series set in an alternate version of Korea, where the country operates as a constitutional monarchy.
IU will play the role of Sung Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress from a family that owns the biggest conglomerate in Korea. While she appears to lead a “perfect” life, her world changes when she crosses paths with Prince Lee Ahn.
Byeon Woo-seok will play the role of Prince Lee Ahn, whose identity was hidden for most of his life because he was born as the king’s second son. However, his life would change upon meeting IU’s character.
This upcoming series marks IU’s highly-anticipated television comeback, with Hotel Del Luna being her last Korean drama in 2019. The popular singer-songwriter previously starred in hit Korean series such as Dream High (2011), The Producers (2015), Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), and My Mister (2018).
Meanwhile, this is Woo-seok’s much-awaited return to the small screen, following the massive success of the hit fantasy romantic-comedy series Lovely Runner with Kim Hye-yoon. The 33-year-old actor rose to mainstream prominence with his lead role in the Netflix film 20th Century Girl (2022).
Fun fact: Both South Korean actors previously appeared in the hit historical romance series Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, where IU played the lead character while Woo-seok had a cameo role.
Wife of a 21st Century Prince is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2025.
