Faulty Stoplight Used as Bait to Penalize Motorists?

Faulty Stoplight Used as Bait to Penalize Motorists?

A netizen shared with us a story and a video of a stoplight in Magsaysay Blvd. cor. Pureza, which appears to be faulty. At first, like a regular stoplight, the light is green with a large timer counting down until the light shifts to orange then red. However, when the countdown is at 10 seconds, the green light instantly turns to orange and the timer begins a countdown from 3 to 1 until the light turns red.

Due to this, there are motorists who tend to instantly hit their brakes when they see the stoplight. Unfortunately, there are instances when the motorist hits the brake a bit late and the vehicle ends up on the pedestrian lane, which is penalized with a traffic violation known as “Disregarding Traffic Signs.”

Here’s the video of said stoplight:

Here’s the full story:

9am, Magsaysay Blvd cor. Pureza

10 seconds on the green light countdown, then abruptly turned yellow. So Me, startled, hit the brakes, landed on the Pedestrian lane.

Manong blue boy pulis approaches..
Manong Blue boy: mam lisensya.

Me: kuya biglang nag yellow kaya na bigla dinstop ko pasensya po… (trying to be polite explaining the faulty timer blah) Manong interrupted me..

MBB: lisensya po, kaya nga may counter (timer) para marunong ka mag slow down.

Me: (politeness went poof, leveled up to agitated mode)
HAAA?!!? YUN NGA PROBLEMA EH! YUNG COUNTER (TIMER) NYO HINDI MARUNONG MAG BILANG!

MBB: Sa MMDA po yan hindi na namin kasalanan yan.

Me: (so bago pa mag level up to super ultra furious mode) O eto lisensya paki bilisan mag sulat ng ticket, nagmamadali ako.

Sooo calling MMDA or whoever is incharge, please naman, kung magiinstall lang din kayo ng timer sa stop light sana yung marunong naman mag bilang ng tama. Ok?

Soo here, I went back and took a vid of the erratic stoplight. For your reference o.

Rough translation:

9am, Magsaysay Blvd cor. Pureza

10 seconds on the green light countdown, then abruptly turned yellow. So Me, startled, hit the brakes, landed on the Pedestrian lane.

Traffic enforcer (TE) approaches me..

TE: Ma’am, can I have your license?

Me: Sir, the traffic light suddenly turned yellow [orange] so I instantly stepped on the brakes. I apologize for this. (I was trying to be polite explaining the faulty time when the traffic enforcer interrupted me).

TE: License please. That’s why there’s a time so you will when to slow down.

Me: (politeness went poof, leveled up to agitated mode) WHAAATTT?!!? THAT’S THE PROBLEM! THE TIMER IS THE PROBLEM!! IT DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO COUNT!

TE: It’s MMDA’s. It’s not our fault.

Me: (Before I get super furious) Here’s my license. Can you quickly write the ticket? I’m on a rush.

So, calling the MMDA or whoever is in-charge. Please, if you are going to install a stoplight, make sure that the countdown is correct, ok?

So here, I went back and took a vid of the erratic stoplight. For your reference.

Has anyone experienced this too?
