Is “Inception” Getting a Sequel?

Let’s get right to the point: is Inception getting a sequel?

Two days ago, Warner Bros., which distributed Christopher Nolan’s film, posted an iconic scene from the movie on Facebook. It simply had the caption “16.7.2020,” clearly meaning July 16, 2020.

The photo shows a spinning top, which viewers will recognize as the totem in the movie that spins indefinitely in a dream. We see the spinning top right at the end and just when we are about to see if the scene is a dream or not, the film cuts to black.

Does this mean a sequel? As early as last year, rumors have been swirling that Nolan’s next film Tenet is Inception‘s sequel. When the trailer was released, the rumor mill went overdrive, analyzing that Tenet shared some themes and even plot elements with Inception.

However, John David Washington, who will star in the upcoming movie, offered this response when asked by Esquire if Tenet is indeed a sequel. He said, “I’d say [Tenet] is an in-law to Inception,” he said. “They’re related by marriage. They get together for Thanksgivings, family barbecues, like that kind of thing. Other than that, one lives in Europe, the other one lives in Compton.”

However, we would like to point out that Tenet is scheduled to be released on July 31, 2020, or two weeks after the date on the mysterious Facebook post.
