Remember the Internet meme Longcat? She passed away and we’re devastated

News about pets passing away always hits differently, and when we heard that Longcat has passed away, we were just as sad.

Nobiko, the Japanese cat known as the Internet meme Longcat, has died from natural causes at the age of 18. Longcat’s owner, Miko, made an announcement on Twitter about the cat’s passing. Miko found Nobiko lying in a weak state and was rushed to the hospital, where she passed away at 2PM last Sunday.

Nobiko was first adopted by Miko in the year 2002. Back then, she was thin and gray ; but after a bath, she was revealed to be a beautiful white cat.

After appearing on the message board 2chan around the year 2004, Nobiko became a meme — one popularly known as Longcat. And for good reason, too. According to a report by Know Your Meme, a site that documents Internet memes, Nobiko was considered to be really tall. She stood at 65 cm or 25.5 inches.

From edited images to imagined war stories, Nobiko became famous when fans created a scenario involving her and her doppelgänger Tacgnol in an epic “Catnarok” fight. However, she is mostly known as a long cat that stretches on and on and on.

Aside from Longcat’s passing, Internet sensation Grumpy Cat also died last year.
