It looks like John Lloyd Cruz is indeed slowly moving back to showbiz, as he is set to star in a movie that will be released this year. That in itself is exciting, but another thing that we’re looking forward to is his reunion with ex-girlfriend Shaina Magdayao.
Together, they will star in Servando Magdamag, directed by Lav Diaz and based on a short story written by Ricky Lee.
Now, Shaina has spoken up about working with her ex. She told reporters during the press conference of the film Tagpuan: “At first, before shooting the film, ang disposition ko was okay gagawin ko ‘to for the love of Lav Diaz. But as we ended and by the last shooting day, I’m happy that I can now say that I was able to support not just my director Lav Diaz but also my friend, John Lloyd.”
She added, “Okay naman kami nu’n. Pero never ko talaga nakita sarili ko na magkakasama kami sa trabaho. It was something na never ko naman na-experience before din. It’s so nice because we’re different people now. And obviously, we’re both very happy with our respective lives. Pero maliit lang talaga ang mundo ng showbiz. Ganu’n talaga ‘yun eh.“

Shaina added that she’s not starring in the film. She said, “Actually, it’s not my film. I’ll answer it once and for all para hindi na tayo humaba pa. It’s not my film with him. It’s his film. It’s a Ricky Lee material. It’s called Servando Magdamag. It’s directed by Lav Diaz. It’s not my film. Cameo lang po ako.”
This is John Lloyd’s first starring role since Finally Found Someone in 2017. Last year, he had a special guest appearance in the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Culion. He was with Shaina for two years until their breakup in 2012.
