Just recently, news spread around the interwebs that Disney is having such a hard time looking for the ~perfect~ cast for the live-action remake of Aladdin. Fans and non-fans alike had a lot of opinions on the casting issue.
Many people were actually quite anxious about the possibility of whitewashing this Arabian Disney film. Others just kept giving Disney tons of choices of who could play Aladdin and Princess Jasmine because the producers were apparently having a hard time looking for actors to star in the classic roles.
But apparently, the search has ended.
The cast for the lead characters in the Aladdin live-action remake was announced at the D23 Expo on Saturday.
Aladdin is going to be played by Canadian actor Mena Massoud. Sources say that he was born in Egypt and was raised in Canada. Relatively new to the industry, he’s also set to be part of the cast of the Jack Ryan TV series.

Naomi Scott, who recently appeared as Pink Ranger in the Power Rangers reboot, will be playing the Princess Jasmine.
And finally, the lovable Genie will be brought to life by Will Smith himself.
There’s no announcement yet as to when the live-action remake of this Disney classic is set to be released, but now that the cast is here, we can’t wait!
