Earlier today, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed that they served a letter to Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto asking him to explain a possible violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act, a law approved to allow President Rodrigo Duterte to have sweeping powers to implement measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sotto responded to this on Twitter and said:

They’re asking for an “explanation on the alleged violation of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act (e.g. continuous tricycle operation)”

We complied with all directives. Hindi po illegal magbigay ng opinyon.

…at alam kaya nila na March 24 naging batas ang Bayanihan Act?

He added:

Ang nakapagtataka.. bago pa namin matanggap yung sulat, may media nang nagtatanong sa amin tungkol dito…

Anyway, back to work

The mayor’s specific act that prompted the NBI’s summons was not immediately known. Sotto later confirmed that it was due to the time he allowed the limited use of tricycles to ferry to healthcare workers and other frontliners in Pasig.
