Here Is Michele Gumabao’s Answer to People’s Question of “Why”

Michele Gumabao took to Instagram on Wednesday, October 13, seemingly to answer people’s questions regarding the news about her filing for a certificate of nomination and acceptance as a second nominee of the Mocha Uson for Mothers For Change (MOCHA) party-list last week.

Posting a photo of herself with her mom, Michele shared the reason behind her decision.

“Why? the answer is very simple. My mom taught me how to love like Jesus. Even if it hurts, even when people don’t understand, even when it seems crazy,” she began.

“My mom didn’t just tell my siblings and I how to love no matter who, to forgive no matter what and to be compassionate no matter what the cost, she lived it and showed us every day. She taught me to always see the good in every person and in every situation,” she continued.

“We can’t just hope, post, tweet or wait for change to happen, we have to work for it and it should start right now. This pandemic showed all of us that life is finite and tomorrow might not come, do what you can today.”

The volleyball player and beauty queen first made the announcement of her entry into politics through an Instagram post which showed her side-by-side with controversial blogger Mocha Uson. “It’s time we become mothers of a movement that will change our country,” she wrote at the time.

“I’ve always said I would use the platform I was given to advocate and be a voice for women and the youth. This is for every mother who sacrificed for us to be here right now. This is for those who made the choice to care and nurture others. For every woman who wants to be an author of change! This is for those who believe we can change for the better!”

She also stressed that party lists exist for people who “share the same advocacy” and are determined to create a bigger impact in the Filipino community.

Her post has since drawn flak from Instagram users and netizens.
