Another major leap for Heneral Luna!!
After initially struggling to stay alive in theaters, this seems to be a complete 360 degree turn for the historical biopic!
HENERAL LUNA has just grossed P100 MILLION since it opened this month!
Director Jerrold Tarog broke the announcement on his Facebook page:

When HENERAL LUNA opened last September 9th, and with the box office results for the 1st week, I really thought we would not make it through a 2nd week. I was being teased – pang first day, last day lang ang mga ganyang pelikula. Sadly, historical films do not even break even in this part of the world. But then again, sige lang, push some more. The film has a really important reminder to all Filipinos and the message just had to reach as many, as humanely possible. This was certainly no time to give up.
Yesterday, the impossible happened. The film grossed more than 20M in one day!!! Ang late kong natulog, ang aga kong nagising – waiting for the box office report. Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kulang na lang sumigaw ako sa simbahan kanina after the 6am mass – as soon as I checked my incoming messages. And with that, the film has finally breached the 100M gross. Another 100M to go na lang for the film to break even. Ha ha. Kaya yan! I am sooooooooooooo happy for the producers of this film Nando Ortigas and Eduardo A. Rocha. Uulitin ko lang po for the nth time. Isa lamang akong hamak na distributor na pelikula – tumutulong na maipaabot sa higit na nakararami, dahil naninawala ako sa napakagandang hangarin ng lahat ng bumubuo nito. Hindi po ako producer ng mahalagang pelikulang ito — na kumakatok sa mga puso ng sambayanang Pilipino — na nanawagan ng isang pagbabago para sa kapakanan ng sususnod na henerasyon.
Thank you Lord! Thank you sa inyong lahat ng nanood sa pelikulang ito!!! Nawa’y patuloy nating mahalin ang ating Inang Bayan at wag nating hayaang mabale wala ang lahat ng mga nagbuwis ng kanilang buhay para natin makamit ang kalayaan.
While definitely a milestone for HENERAL LUNA, the film apparently needs P100 million more to break even.
This means that we’re more likely to see their sequels such as Heneral Del Pilar and Manuel Quezon in the works!!
