Fully Booked opened its second store with Books Kinokuniya at the SM Mall of Asia, and it’s brimming with manga, Japanese literature, art books, and Japanese language books.

This is the second time Fully Booked has joined forces with Japan’s Books Kinokuniya. In 2022, the two bookstores partnered to open Fully Booked x Kinokuniya at the Japanese-inspired mall Mitsukoshi in Bonifacio Global City.

“We felt like we also needed to open in the biggest mall in the country, Mall of Asia. Although we currently have a Fully Booked [store] here, we felt that given the market size, it was too small. So we decided to get a much bigger space and partner with Kinokuniya to also showcase the Japanese selection that we had in Mitsukoshi Mall and give it a wider audience,” Jaime Daez, the managing director of Fully Booked, told WheninManila.com.

The Mall of Asia branch is much larger, with a retail space of 318 square meters. Half of it will be dedicated to Japanese reads.

Daez noted, “In terms of Japanese selection, this one right now has the most, even more than Mitsukoshi Mall, because we brought in a lot of new selections for this store. So definitely, in terms of Japanese books and merchandise, this is the most complete among all the stores.”

The Fully Booked x Kinokuniya branch in the Mall of Asia is on the third floor, next to other Japanese stores like UNIQLO, MUJI, and JINS.

Daez told us, “It’s funny because when I approached SM to ask them if there were any vacant spaces for us to open, this was the only available space. I felt like it was a perfect location for us because it’s become kind of like the Japanese area of the mall.”

Kinokuniya is the best book store to partner with, as it is a renowned chain from Japan. Founded in 1927, it now has 80 stores worldwide, including the USA, Singapore, Australia, the U.A.E., and Thailand, to name a few.

The new store will still offer a wide range of titles for readers of other genres such as fiction, philosophy, self-help, cookery, romance, art, and more.
