Despite the persistent public health crises and issues that the Philippines faces, community leaders and professionals have consistently advocated for quality health care services. Proper access to medical services and health insurance is a fundamental benefit that we all deserve to partake in, regardless of our social status.
This year, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) is taking diligent action toward providing inclusive and accessible health care services nationwide.

On August 21, 2025, PhilHealth officially launched its new Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) initiative. This allows PhilHealth members to avail of up to ₱20,000 in free outpatient medicine for common sicknesses every year. Filipinos already have high hopes and expectations for the project, only weeks into its implementation.
In just a few steps, you, too, can avail of PhilHealth’s first-ever annual program for free outpatient medicine. Here’s how you can sign up for the GAMOT initiative, as well as what it means for the current and future state of public health in the Philippines.

The GAMOT initiative is one of PhilHealth’s newly implemented projects under the multi-purpose Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (YAKAP). PhilHealth has made YAKAP possible through multiple partnerships with local clinics in every region. Active PhilHealth members can sign up for YAKAP’s services (and the GAMOT project, by extension) by following these three steps:
Step One: Register under your local YAKAP clinic of choice. You can do so online through the eGovPH app or PhilHealth online member portal, or apply in person at any PhilHealth office in the country. You can also approach your chosen YAKAP clinic for assistance.
Step Two: Schedule and attend your medical consultation at your registered YAKAP clinic. Your prescription will contain a Unique Prescription Security Code (USPC) to present to any GAMOT health facility with a valid government-issued ID.
Step Three: You can now avail of up to ₱20,000 worth of outpatient medicine every year under PhilHealth’s GAMOT initiative. The project is still expanding to more clinics and health care providers across the country. It’s best to stay updated via PhilHealth’s website and social media channels for any newly accredited YAKAP clinics and GAMOT facilities you can consult with in the future.

The “ber” months have drawn in extreme weather conditions that can easily expose Filipinos to sickness. PhilHealth’s YAKAP and GAMOT services have been quick to address and strive to resolve this dilemma.
PhilHealth has made it a point to provide thorough care and check-ups for every ailment possible. That’s why the GAMOT project covers over 75 types of medicine for human sicknesses—including diabetes, asthma, infections, high blood pressure, and heart conditions, to name a few.
The GAMOT initiative also serves as a benefit package for Filipinos when they or their loved ones require urgent care.
Other Services Under YAKAP

PhilHealth’s YAKAP services aren’t just limited to free medicine. YAKAP has three additional facilities that ensure safe and efficient health care, well within Filipinos’ reach.
The project also offers check-ups, basic laboratory services, and referrals for cancer screening tests to registered members. As these projects are slowly but surely going into full swing, PhilHealth and its clinic partners are investing in their long-term success for every citizen’s welfare and betterment.
You can contact PhilHealth on social media or via their communication lines to stay informed on the YAKAP initiative’s developments and future services.
We don’t know how long we’ll be able to experience PhilHealth’s latest health care pursuits. We can only hope that they constantly remind us of the urgent attention and support that the country’s health care system needs for medical professionals and the people they serve every day.
