Former “Unang Hirit” Host Rhea Santos Graduates From Journalism Program in Canada

Nearly a year after news broke out that former “Unang Hirit” host Rhea Santos was now working as a news anchor for OMNI News in Canada, she has once again revealed to friends and followers a new milestone she recently achieved.

Santos, now based in Vancouver, took to her Instagram account last July 29 to announce that she just finished a two-year Broadcast and Online Journalism program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).

“Hey #dguzboys, we did it! You’ve driven me to have courage, inspired me to go forward and have always loved me unconditionally,” she began as she shared her graduation photos.

“This is also for loved ones in the Philippines and in California who would have wanted to share this milestone with me. Knowing that you are all in good health is the best gift you can give as my family positively yearns for the day we can all be together again.”

She continued, “To my fellow graduates of 2021, to fellow #Filipino international student graduates, we rocked it amidst the global #pandemic. Celebrating with you!”

Santos moved to Canada back in 2019 after 19 years of working in the television broadcasting industry in the Philippines.

In a separate post, she reflected on the experience of taking her diploma course and having to tread new waters to achieve this dream.

“The cap on my head means more to me than finishing a diploma course. It’s about starting over without knowing what’s next or if we’ve made the right decision. It’s being fearful of the uncertain but you wake up each day and tell yourself, ‘you can do this.’ It’s the reminder of my heart that beats to my ‘why.’ To #love is, indeed, the bravest of all things. You discover a strength that overcomes fear and moves mountains. To all mom and dad #2021 grads, whatever your reasons are for going back to school, you deserve to be celebrated,” she wrote.
