Filipino fans of virtual streamers banded together to raise Php 53,000 (nearly USD 1,000) in support of the typhoon relief efforts of Tulong Kabataan Disaster Response Center.
The aftermath of Typhoon Gaemi (locally known as Carina) brought together organizers of local fan events and projects (Moomin’ Manila, PH Starlights, and KFP Philippines) to produce the country’s first-ever Live Charity Auction that featured local virtual streamers (VTubers) and cosplayers in the digital space.
Streamed last Sunday, August 11, 2024, the project titled “Beyond The Stormโ was inspired by the online phenomenon of “Live-Selling.” This event was then streamed on the YouTube channel of Kitsui Akira (Kiichan), one of the countryโs popular independent creators.
Invited VTuber guests from the DayJobU agency (Bebe Duck, Zestlemon) and the independent scene (singer and illustrator Maddie, 2D animation artist and Live2D buzz creator Kira Omori, and real-life surgeon ShioriPon) had the chance to showcase their marketing skills as official hololive and HOLOSTARS limited commemorative items โ donated by the community โ were auctioned off to local and even international fans.
In just two weeks after the typhoon struck, fans were able to pull off a feat that helped translate their love and passion for VTubers to heartfelt aid for those in need.
