Ernest Hemingway is a Pulitzer Prize awardee for Fiction in 1953 and a Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954 — both for his novel, “The Old Man and the Sea.”

This famous author is known for his work such as “For whom the bells tolls”, “A farewell to arms” and “The sun also rises” was suffering from severe depression.  When he could not stand it any longer he took a pistol to his forehead and shot himself in 1961, according to reports.

Gia was a Maxim model and starred in the reality show the “Bachelor.” She suffered from a pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder, which led to extreme emotional swings and massive symptoms of depression. She hanged herself with a vacuum cleaner cord in August 2015. Her boyfriend found her still breathing and rushed her to the hospital. Unfortunately, due to complications and brain damage, she fell into a coma, and her family decided to remove her from life support.

Don Cornelius

The creator and lifetime host of “soul train,” a musical variety show featuring performances from R&B and hip-hop artist. He was suffering from depression and had seizures six months prior to his suicide. He was found dead with a pistol in his hand by his son on February 2012.

Chris Cornell

Soundgarden and Audioslave’s frontman, Chris Cornell, also suffered from depression due to substance abuse problems earlier in his life.

International news reported Cornell was found dead in his Detroit hotel room early on the morning of May 18, 2017, after performing at a Soundgarden concert the night before. Although there was no concrete evidence, his death was ruled a suicide.

Chester Bennington

His screaming voice and lyrics might have said it all.  “One step closer to the edge, and I’m about to break.” says a lot. He might have been telling us all along his true feelings.

Linkin Park’s lead vocals, Chester Bennington took his life on July 21, 2017. He was found dead at his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California, having committed suicide by hanging, as reported by TMZ. Chester was instrumental to us during the late 90s to early 200s. His lyrics and songs were full of emotions and relatable.

Chester and Chris were good friends. It may sound coincidental, but depression doesn’t care who you are, where you are, and who you are with.

Depression is and will never be a joking matter. I consider it a menace to society. And sadly, our society is ignorant and close-minded.

My psychologist friend told me that most of the people suffering from depression don’t want to die. They want to kill the pain that’s been dragging them down.

So please, if you or know of someone suffering or might be suffering from depression, talk to them wholeheartedly and with an open mind.

People reach out if it’s already too late. Every life taken by f*cking depression matters.
