In the light of the recent terrorist attacks carried out by Islamic extremists, there’s been a heavy backlash against Muslims worldwide—even towards those innocently living their own quiet lives.
This case of Muslim-hate, though has been escalating in the past decade, became even more a severe issue when the world was shook by the news of Paris being under attack last month. A series of mass shootings and bombings were carried out in France’s capital city, resulting to the death of more than 100 civilians and injuring more than 300. The attack was claimed to be an act of terror by the extremist group Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham or ISIS. On top of that, currently, the United States is also under tension after another mass shooting occurred (their 353rd just in 2015, but that’s another issue), this time in San Bernardino, California. The alleged shooters are a married Muslim couple from the area.
These instances are just a few of the many threats and attacks worldwide involving Islamic groups and individuals, but is it justified to condemn the entire religion and its followers as a whole? Certainly not, according to Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
In a Facebook status posted December 10, Philippine time, Zuckerberg expresses his support to the oppressed majority of Muslims around the world undeservingly receiving the hate for the actions of their radical counterparts. Read his complete post below:

“I want to add my voice in support of Muslims in our community and around the world.
After the Paris attacks and hate this week, I can only imagine the fear Muslims feel that they will be persecuted for the actions of others.
As a Jew, my parents taught me that we must stand up against attacks on all communities. Even if an attack isn’t against you today, in time attacks on freedom for anyone will hurt everyone.
If you’re a Muslim in this community, as the leader of Facebook I want you to know that you are always welcome here and that we will fight to protect your rights and create a peaceful and safe environment for you.
Having a child has given us so much hope, but the hate of some can make it easy to succumb to cynicism. We must not lose hope. As long as we stand together and see the good in each other, we can build a better world for all people.”
