Eva Teleconsult chief executive officer (CEO) Paolo Kalaw shares, “We saw the anxiety and depression that people are experiencing given the pandemic’s challenges and wanted to let everyone know that there is help available. Nobody has to hide in shame. It’s okay to feel what you feel.”

The Department of Health (DOH) discovered that at least 3.6 million Filipinos report suffering from one kind of mental, neurological, or substance use disorder, but statistically, there is only one mental health worker for every 100,000 Filipinos with most Filipinos finding difficulty accessing these services. This directly aligns with the World Health Organization (WHO) report stating a 25% increase in global prevalence of anxiety and depression due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with young people and women being the most affected. 90% of countries have reported increasing action in order to address this issue, however gaps still remain due to the taboo associated with mental illness.

Founded in September 2020, Eva Teleconsult is a telemedicine service in the Philippines that offers online consultations with expert doctors in the country. At the height of the pandemic, Eva was created to provide Filipinos with an accessible way to meet with doctors who listen to the concerns of their patients and are thorough with their diagnosis.

In order to book a mental health counseling session, Eva encourages those interested to simply create a profile and book via their website www.evateleconsult.com. Mental health counseling sessions are a minimum of one hour to provide ample time for the psychiatrist to provide thorough explanations and a fruitful session.
