EnviRUNment 2014: A Run for Fitness and the Environment
Everyone loves jogging along the streets of the University of the Philippines, Diliman – and why not? A wide road perfect for your sidewalk sprint, shady trees covering you above from the sun’s harsh rays, the cool breeze that gently brushes your cheeks, and fellow joggers left and right. It’s the perfect place for your exercise fix, whether you do it in the morning or in the late afternoon.
The University of the Philippines Circle of Landscape Architecture Students took advantage of this and organized an event called EnviRUNment: Fun Run for a Cause, a celebratory event of UPCLAS’ silver anniversary. A first for the organization, this run is driven to contribute to the change we wanna see, not only for the environment, but also for fitness and the need to rebuild lives in Tablocan from the recent Typhoon Haiyan.
Take a peek at what happened during the EnviRUNment 2014 run:
Everyone was set at the starting point. Before any race begins, a short warmup is essential to avoid sprains and and other muscle injuries.
After the signal, racers set off for the different categories: 3k, 5k and 10k.
Along the way, they need to pick up and collect paper leaves until they reach the finish line.
After minutes, racers made it to the finish line! Woohoo!
Finishers took selfies at the EnviRUNment 2014 wall.
UPCLAS alloted a space where the runners could paste leaves with their messages about the fun run on it.

Indeed, this fun run has done its share to promote awareness on the organization’s advocacies. A real genuine project with a genuine cause, they stood up to fight against real world problems and seek for the change. And this is one of their steps.
