What are the chances of a popular international singer crashing your birthday party? This happened to ABSCBN actress Ria Atayde who was celebrating her 25th birthday at the Seawell Garden of Sofitel Philippine Plaza where the British rock band Coldplay was staying for their Manila concert tonight at the MOA Concert Grounds.
Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin was reported to be watching the celebration from afar. Despite being disguised underneath his cap, the birthday celebration host Karen Kabuhat recognized him along with her friend and fellow fan Elaine Medina who was the manager of La Belle Fete Wedding and Events, the wedding organizer of the celebration.
Karen took it to Instagram how she encountered the British rock band’s lead singer.
She captions:
“Coldplay’s Chris Martin crashing Ria Atayde’s birthday which I hosted for Labelle Fete. I totally lost my cool and run na pang marathon in heels habang lubog ng lubog sa grass ????????????????????????????????#riaalacubana #coldplay #coldplayinmanila #coldplayph”
Rough translation: “Coldplay’s Chris Martin crashing Ria Atayde’s birthday which I hosted for Labelle Fete. I totally lost my cool and ran as if I were in a marathon in my heels as it sunk [with every step I made] through the grass grass ????????????????????????????????#riaalacubana #coldplay #coldplayinmanila #coldplayph”
According to Kabuhat through an interview with ABS-CBN, she noticed that Martin “was there for a good 20 minutes siguro just observing“. She also added that Martin wanted to sing with the band, but “a member of their party requested the band to sing Coldplay songs but at one point when the band had to stop because he might get mobbed.”
Medina also took into social media her fan-girling moment with Chris Martin though a video:
According to Medina, “Wala na akong na-isip that time parang na-connect na lang ng brain ko na possible ‘to kasi may concert sila! And there he was! Pero ‘di mo talaga sya agad mapapansin kasi he was hiding beside the tree.
So being the makapal ang mukha that I am I approached this guy na parang security nya if I can take photos with him. But he said it’s not allowed but I’m free to talk to him.”Â
Rough translation: “I did not have enough time to think, it then connected (registered to my brain) that what was happening was possible because they were going to have a concert! And there he was! But you can barely notice him because he was hiding behind a tree. Being the overly confident person that I am, I approached this guy as I were his security if I can take photos with him. But he said it’s not allowed but I’m free to talk to him.”
“”Looking back, ang dami ko gusto gawin. Sana nag-request ako ng song or something, pero choosy pa ba ako? It happened! I shook hands and talked to him! An actual conversation! Sana maulit ‘yung kagabi. He was so nice and very accommodating! Nakaka-iyak!”
Rough translation: “Looking back, I wasted to do so many things. I could have requested for a song or something, but why would I still be choosy? It happened! I shook hands and talked to him! An actual conversation. I hope what happened last night could happen again. He was so nice and very accommodating! It’s overwhelming.”
