Empowering Women: A Glimpse into “Women in Focus” Photo Exhibit”

Last March 17, the Fashion Walk of Greenbelt 5 came alive with the vibrant energy of empowerment as the highly anticipated photo exhibit, “Women in Focus,” opened its doors to the public. Spearheaded by Project Headshot Clinic, a digital platform founded by Niccolo Cosme in 2007, this exhibit showcases the stories of 30 remarkable women from diverse backgrounds, each a leader and icon in their respective fields, championing causes that profoundly impact their communities. At the heart of “Women in Focus” lies a celebration of women’s advocacy and empowerment.

One of the featured women, Bai Rohaniza Sumndad-Usman, epitomizes this spirit through her work with Teach Peace Build Peace, an organization she founded dedicated to peace-building in conflict areas in the Philippines. Collaborating with former Miss World Philippines, Katarina Rodriguez, they amplified their peace-building campaign in Marawi City in 2017, leaving a lasting impact on the community.

The exhibit also pays homage to journalists Karen Davila and Kaladkaren. Davila’s involvement with UN Women has been instrumental in raising awareness about gender equality and women’s empowerment, while Kaladkaren’s notable achievements have furthered the cause of LGBTQ+ rights and representation. Joining Davila are UN Women champions Bianca Gonzalez, Rissa Mananquil Trillo, and Iza Calzado.

Together with advocates of reproductive health like Pia Cayetano, Risa Hontiveros, Beth Angsioco, and Ana Maria Nemenzo, these women exemplify the crucial role women play in advancing these vital causes.

Sports, too, take center stage in the exhibit, with the UST Tigresses, recent champions in the last UAAP women’s basketball after 17 years, shining a light on the prowess of women in sports. Karen Tanchanco-Caballero, Deputy Secretary-General of the Philippine Olympics Committee, emphasizes the importance of investing in women in sports, declaring that the future of Philippine sports is undeniably Filipina women.

Through “Women in Focus,” the exhibit hopes to underscore the significance of investing in women and fostering a more inclusive society. It serves as a reminder that when women are empowered and given the platform to thrive, they become catalysts for positive change in their communities and beyond.

As the exhibit runs through March 24 at the Fashion Walk, Greenbelt 5, let us heed its empowering message and continue to support and uplift women in all their endeavors.

“Project Headshot Clinic Women In Focus” is presented by Ayala Malls, Strokes Cosmetics, Pinay Girl Boss, Nat Manilag, and made possible by Mango Tree Manila, FujiFilm, Aputure, and The Red Whistle.
