Here’s another achievement in local cinema: Eddie Garcia and Tony Mabesa won the Best Actor Award at the 52nd Worldfest Houston International Film Festival in the US. The recognition was for the actors’ roles in the film Rainbow’s Sunset.
That’s not all. Apart from this citation, the film also won the Special Jury Prize and the Gold Remi Award for best story innovation.
Rainbow’s Sunset tells the story of an aging man (Garcia) who reveals to his family that he has feelings for his best friend (Mabesa). The film was an official entry to the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival, where it won Best Picture, Best Director for Joel Lamangan, Best Actress for Gloria Romero, Best Supporting Actor for Mabesa, Best Supporting Actress for Aiko Melendez, Best Production Design, Best Original Theme Song for “Sa’yo Na,” Best Screenplay, the Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award, and two Special Jury Prizes for Garcia and Max Collins.
Three other Filipino films were recognized at the same festival. School Service won two Gold Remi Awards under the Foreign Language category and Asian Cinema section, Ngiti ni Nazareno was given the Bronze Remi award in the Short Film Drama category, and Last Order was awarded a Platinum Remi.
Congratulations to local cinema!
