“Double Take” Explores Identity and Vulnerability Through Twin Bill Production

Kho Lab Productions and Artist Playground proudly present “Double Take” — a twin bill production featuring Reverse Card and AL.TER this May to June.

“Double Take” showcases two powerful one-act plays in a single evening, delving into sexual identity, power dynamics, and vulnerability within confined spaces. The result is a layered theatrical experience where perspectives shift, and nothing is ever quite as it seems.

Reverse Card follows a gay author who has been tormented throughout his life because of his gender identity. In a moment of vulnerability, he invites his former classmate and longtime bully, John, to his home. However, the evening takes a sinister turn when the author’s latest play is rejected in favor of John’s work.

Meanwhile, in AL.TER, grieving the loss of his partner, interior designer Al returns to a department store filled with their shared memories. There, he encounters Ter (Terrence)—a stranger who looks exactly like the man he lost—and is pulled into an emotional unraveling. As he pours out his vulnerability, Al is forced to confront the blurred line between memory and moving on.

Directed by Paul Jake Paule, the twin bill brings together two distinct stories under a sharp, unified vision, balancing emotional depth with shifting perspectives.

Reverse Card Re-Run marks the return of Gerhard Krysstopher as Marvin and Gerald Magallanes as John, joined by new cast members Drei Arias and Lance Cabradilla playing John, and Inah Evans and Jarold Brimbuela both stepping into the role of Marvin.

In AL.TER, CJ Tiongson and Johnrey Rivas alternate as Al, opposite James Ramada, Drei Arias, and John Ven Soco, who portray Ter.

“Double Take” runs from May 29 to June 21, with performances scheduled every Friday to Sunday at Illuminations Studio in Makati.

Showtimes are at 8:00 PM from Friday to Sunday, with additional 3:00 PM matinee performances on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets can be purchased via Ticket2Me.
