Dingdong Dantes and ‘Descendants of the Sun’ Costars Undergo Training with Army’s Special Forces

The main cast of the upcoming local remake of popular Korean drama series Descendants of the Sun underwent a two-day training with the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Special Forces.

Dingdong Dantes, who will be playing the lead role of Big Boss originally played by Korean actor Song Joong-ki, took to his Instagram to commend his costars for their dedication and courage to receive training in preparation for the show. He shared a series of photos of himself alongside Rocco Nacino, Paul Salas, Prince Clemente, Jon Lucas, and Lucho Ayala taking on various tasks while drenched in mud.

“A snappy salute to my co-actors for showing their never-say-die dedication to the craft by agreeing to immerse with our country’s Special Forces in preparation for our respective roles,” Dingdong wrote in the caption.

“We give much respect to our uniformed men for their love and dedication to protecting our people and securing the land. It is true that we enjoy these liberties in society because the Armed Forces are in the frontline, risking their lives for us to enjoy ours, free from threat— may it be man made or natural,” he continued.

Dingdong also said that this is the reason why it is their “duty as actors to represent them properly and as accurately as possible on screen.”

“For actors like us, our battle ground is the set and our mission is to portray a character in the best way we can, so that the whole production can tell a story in the most effective way possible,” he added.

All six actors were guided through basic military, jungle warfare, immediate action drills, obstacle course, and reception rites, among others, at the Special Forces School in Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija.

There is no scheduled date when the Descendants of the Sun remake will be released.
