ADOR terminated the 20-year-old Australian–South Korean singer’s contract and is now suing her for millions in damages. An unnamed member of her family and NewJeans’ former producer, Min Hee-jin, are also facing lawsuits for allegedly breaching their contracts.
According to Yonhap, a South Korean news agency, the total amount being sought for alleged contract breaches amounts to 43.1 billion won, or approximately $29.4 million (₱1.7 billion).
The legal battle began in November 2024 when the girl group announced they were terminating their contract with Ador. Eventually, members Haerin and Hyein confirmed that they would resume activities under the record label, while Minji and Hanni returned amid “ongoing discussions.” Danielle, meanwhile, was officially removed from the group.
Following Danielle’s exit, NewJeans now continues as a four-member act.
Debuting in 2022, NewJeans rose to international and mainstream success with hit songs such as “Attention,” “Hype Boy,” “OMG,” “Ditto,” and “Super Shy,” among others.
