Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant : Off the menu, please!

When in Manila, you’ll notice that most Filipinos are hearty eaters. I personally believe that the Filipino palette is hard to please since we’re used to strong flavors. Have you noticed that most of Filipino viands have an overarching taste? For example, the sinigang is sour, the adobo is salty (or sweet for others) and the Bicol Express is spicy. We are used to very flavorful food.

That’s what I appreciate most about Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant . It hits the perfect balance of Filipino and Italian flavor. All ingredients are fresh and everything is made from the heart.

Authentic Italian food party at Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant

Appetizer, soup, pasta, specialty pasta, risotto, meat, fish, pizza, drinks and of course, gelato are the things you’ll find in the menu of Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant. You’ll notice at the bottom of each page it says “We have also many specialities not in menu.” I guess a true Italian cook is always up for the challenge to cook something new.

When in Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant my advice is to… order A LOT.  It will make your whole dining experience worthwhile. Another advice is to order SMART. Don’t order everything under one category; unless that’s your main purpose , to try all their pizzas or what not, order at least one under each category.

The first thing we ordered was the Bruschetta ai Fungi, which is toasted bread topped with the glorious mixture of tomatoes and mushroom. The tomato flavor is strong in this one but the mushroom balances it out. To add to that, the soft topping complements the crunchy toasted bread perfectly.

The original curators of pizza are the Italians. Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant has 20 flavors of pizza for their customers (not counting those off the menu yet).  We ordered Daniele’s Special pizza, a delicious pie of mixed vegetables and meat. For my next visit I think I will order Maremmana (onions, longanissa, fungi freschi and panchetta) and Salmone (salmon and cherry tomatoes). I’m already drooling just thinking about them!

My favorite Italian pasta of all time, the ravioli, is also served in Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant. In fact aside from their Pizzas, their pasta dishes are also something to rave about. Their menu consists of 30 pasta dishes (again, those off the menu are not yet included) including red sauce, white sauce pesto and truffle cream sauce.

Being the pasta freak that I was, I ordered something off the menu. I asked Mr Daniele what he preferred and he recommended this mouthwatering tomato-based spinach ravioli pasta topped with Italian meat.

Order something off the menu and be satisfied!

In my 21 years of existence, I must say that this is the best ravioli pasta I have ever tasted. My original favorite is from a resort in Subic but after tasting this I have been craving it ever since. On the negative side, though. The serving is quite small for my appetite. Quality over quantity, I guess. The ravioli is al dente and it is packed with the tasty spinach, tomato sauce and meat.

We could’ve ended the day already just with those dishes but Mr. Daniele smothered us with more Italian food. For meat and potato lovers I recommend the Bistecca Maiale con Porcini. It’s pork steak in Porcini sauce with potatoes on the side.

Since we love rice, Mr. Daniele also recommended that we try Risotto ala Parmigiana.

To put it briefly, Risotto is rice slowly cooked in broth. This particular risotto is Italian rice cooked in mussel broth topped with parmesan cheese. The dish is creamy and is the perfect complement to the Pork Steak.

We already had pasta, pizza, bruschetta, meat and risotto. What else is missing? Gelato, of course! It’s the perfect way to close your authentic Italian food experience in Daniele’s Casa Mia Italian Restaurant.

I love coffee, so I personally prefer the affogato over the usual gelato. It’s the sublime mix of hot and cold with bitter and sweet.

Affogato is a scoop of vanilla gelato topped with a shot of hot espresso.

Dessert is always a good idea.
