Cooper’s Coffee Haus: A Small Cafe Serving Not-Your-Typical Coffee Drinks

Situated between Mango Tree and Single Origin at the High Street Central, nestled inside Hai Chix & Steaks, is a new coffee shop that should be on your radar.

Cooper’s Coffee Haus, which was founded and is managed by three individuals, is simple with its concept, choosing instead to focus on the quality and uniqueness of its drinks, crepe dishes, and pastries. Despite having its humble beginnings offering just two kinds of coffees in the Estancia branch of Hai Chix & Steaks in 2022, Cooper’s Coffee Haus has grown to five stores in one year—the latest ones being in FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan and in Central Square, BGC—and continues to attract plenty of customers seeking a pick-me-up during their work breaks or a cozy spot to unwind after their weekend shopping spree.

And there’s great reason for this: their menu is definitely not the ordinary, their ingredients are distinctly high quality, and their crepes are surprisingly soft and fluffy. During my visit, I got to try their signature iced drinks: Brown Butter Latte, which perfectly mimics an iced caramel macchiato for those with a sweet tooth; Honey Oat Latte, an instant favorite that makes use of Oatside milk; and Matcha Latte, which makes use of matcha powder imported from Kyoto and prepared the traditional way of using a bowl and a tea whisk.

Speaking as someone who has tried plenty of third-wave coffee shops around the Metro, I can confidently say that I was blown away by the taste of these three drinks. I love taking my iced coffee sweet, yet the Brown Butter Latte and Honey Oat Latte weren’t cloyingly so. I was also told that they make use of their own beans which they hope to sell in the future. What I hope to try next time are their other best-sellers, Mocha Latte and White Chocolate Mocha which both feature artisanal chocolate from local bean-to-bar brand Tigre y Olivia as their star ingredient.

As for the Matcha Latte, I’m very particular about how I want my matcha. I’ve experienced matchas that were too bitter, too grainy, or just way too strong for my liking. Cooper’s Coffee Haus was none of that. I could go as far as to say that theirs is among the best I’ve ever drunk! A tip for those who want to try it out for themselves soon: ask them to add oat milk so that it brings out the matcha flavor even more! If you want the added kick of espresso, though, go for the Dirty Matcha Latte.

Of course, I couldn’t not try their crepes. Unlike other cafes that serve sandwiches and cakes to go with their coffee drinks, Cooper’s Coffee Haus offers crepes that taste similar to those ones found in my favorite crepe restaurant—not at all wafer thin and crunchy—just with an elevated flavor. I loved the Brown Butter Lemon Crepe (I didn’t even notice that I ate it all in one go) and, surprisingly, the Banana Nutella Brûlée, where the crepes are cut and rolled into small cylinders so you can indulge in perfect bite-sized pieces of brûléed banana slice on top of a soft rolled crepe with just the right amount of Nutella spread in between.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try their baked pastries but you can order a Butter Croissant, Kouign-Amann, Pain Au Chocolate, a Chocolate Chip Cookie, and slices of Chocolate Truffle Cake and Carrot Cheesecake.

Cooper’s Coffee Haus will open a couple more branches within the year and will also be open for event catering with their coffee cart in the future. Definitely things worth watching out for! Don’t forget to pick up a loyalty card and have it stamped every time you visit.

You can find Cooper’s Coffee Haus in Central Square, Bonifacio High Street (open every day from 7 AM to 10 PM), Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons (open every day from 7 AM to 10 PM), Ortigas Home Depot (open every day from 9 AM to 10 PM), and at FilOil EcoOil Center (open every day from 9 AM to 7 PM). They’re also on GrabFood!
