On December 2, 2014 to December 21, 2014 at Solaire Resort and Casino in Paranaque City, the world class musical play will open its curtains for Filipinos to see and experience Broadway through “Chicago: The Musical “ co-presented by Smart Infinity and Visa.

As a special treat, tickets to this six-time Tony Award-winning musical will first be made available exclusive to Smart Infinity subscribers before ticket sales are opened to the general public.

A press conference happened on September 16, 2014 at the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Hotel and Casino with the two leading ladies of the Broadway musical: Terra MacLeod (Velma Kelly) and Bianca Marroquin (Roxie Hart) and attended by the media from different agencies and personalities in the entertainment world like MTV Philippines Francis Lumen and International singer Emmanuelle Adda

The two leading ladies of Chicago: The Musical gave a glimpse of what to expect in the actual show through an incredible performance and by happily answering the media’s questions. Terra and Bianca also shared their experiences playing Velma and Roxy in different parts of the world.

‘Chicago,’ featuring its London West End cast, will run starting on 2 December 2014 at The Theater at  Solaire in Parañaque City. 

 

"Chicago" the Musical

Based on a 1926 play of the same name written by Maurine Watkins, ‘Chicago’ is the Tony Award- winning production that gave the Broadway world hits like ‘All That Jazz,’ ‘Razzle Dazzle,’ ‘Cell Block  Tango,’ ‘Mr. Cellophane’ and ‘Nowadays’. 

The 1996 Broadway revival of ‘Chicago’ holds the record for the longest-running revival and longest- running American musical in Broadway history, with 7,300 performances in a span of nearly 15 years.

The musical follows the characters of aspiring vaudevillian Roxie Hart and seasoned vaudevillian Velma  Kelly and the murders they committed in the 1920s. 

The role of Velma gave Catherine Zeta-Jones an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the 2002 Rob Marshall-helmed film (Movie) version, which was also named that year’s Best Picture. Renee Zellweger earned a Best Actress as Roxie, while John C. Riley (as Amos Hart) was nominated  in the Best Supporting Actor category. Richard Gere, who played Billy Flynn, won a Golden Globe Best  Actor for his portrayal of the deceptive lawyer of Roxie who turns his clients into celebrities to win public support.
