How did you feel about the ending of ‘Game of Thrones’? If you loved it, then you’re probably not one of the 1.3 million people who signed the petition set up by Dylan D. on Choice.org, demanding HBO to remake the final season and saying that “David Benioff and DB Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (ie the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense.”
Obviously, this petition didn’t sit well with the cast and crew who worked incredibly hard for months to get the final season out this year.
Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who played the role of Bran Stark in the series, for one, thinks the petition is “just absurd”. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, he says, “It’s ridiculous that people think they can just demand a different ending because they don’t like it. I have stupidly taken it quite personally, which obviously I shouldn’t.” Isaac admits that he is a fan of the ending (though we’re not really surprised that he is :p).
In an interview with TMZ, Jacob Anderson, who played the role of Grey Worm, says that the backlash “sucks” and that it is “insulting” to everyone who worked on it.
In an interview with the New York Times, Sophie Turned, who played Sansa Stark, admits that she wasn’t really surprised by the negative reactions following the finale because she understands that “people always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel”.
However, she does think that the petition is “disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season. Like 50-something night shoots. So many people worked so, so hard on it, and for people to just rubbish it because it’s not what they want to see is just disrespectful.”
Lili Reinhart, who didn’t even star of ‘Game of Thrones’, but plays Betty Cooper on ‘Riverdale’, also joined in the conversation, stating that, “This is not how television works….TV shows are not fan service. It’s ridiculous of people to think they can demand creative change from artists.”
