Relient K will be at Ayala Malls this weekend!!!
I don’t know about you, but this is kind of a big deal for me. Back in 2004, when I was a high school senior skating my way through life (whoa… can’t believe that was almost a decade ago!), Relient K was always on my playlist and “Be My Escape” was always on repeat on my discman (…okay, I’m officially a dinosaur!).
Well, if you went through a Relient K phase like I did, then your inner high school skater girl can rejoice When in Manila because Relient K is here! They’re here! They’re here, they’re here, they’re here! And they’ll be performing in various Ayala Malls this weekend!
Relient K band members John Warne, Matt Thiessen, Jon Schneck, Matt Hoopes, and Ethan Luck are now ready to entertain their legions of loyal fans – including me! 😀
Relient K – Who are They?
I have been by Relient K‘s side throughout their six full-length albums and five EPs. In case you need to refresh your memory, their 2004 studio album was called “Mmhmm” and that is where my beautiful “Be My Escape” LSS-forever song was on. What I love about Relient K is how their songs are inspired by personal experiences and were thus very relatable for me as I went through college. Even listening to them now, they are still very relatable overall.
My parents are big Relient K fans, too, mostly because they had no choice but to hear their music blasting from my CD player back in the day; but also because they’ve got a distinct Christian rock style that doesn’t sound like “noise” to the older generation. Relient K‘s tunes are catchy, too.
In Relient K‘s latest album “Collapsible Lung”, they have 12 buzz-worthy songs that effortlessly evoke that same free-spirited vibe that I’ve always loved about them. Aside from coming up with feel-good songs like “Don’t Blink”, “Boomerang” and “If I Could Take You Home”; Relient K has also collaborated with genius writers, including Fernando Garibay (Lady Gaga), Evan Bogart (Beyonce, Rihanna), Tim Pagnotta (lead singer/writer for Sugarcult) and Ari Levine (Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars).
