One of the most heartbreaking things to happen for any Star Wars fan is the passing of Carrie Fisher, who played Leia Organa in the film franchise. She passed due to a heart attack in 2016, a year before “Episode VIII: The Last Jedi” came out. It turns out that she will still be a part of the “Episode IX,” and JJ Abrams, who will direct the film, explained how.
According to a statement, “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher. Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker, will also return for the film and tweeted something for Fisher. He said, “It’s bittersweet facing my final chapter without her-She is simply irreplaceable. I’m finding solace in the fact that she won’t BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news.#CarrieOnForever.”
The tweet also contains photos of the two from “The Last Jedi” and the original trilogy.
“Episode IX” will be screened in December 2019.
