Car Window Smashed on Purported Robbery in Mandaluyong Paid Parking Lot

Parking lots in Metro Manila have been on the spotlight a lot lately, and not in a good way. Just about a month ago, we posted about a car falling off a parking building in Greenhills and a car hit and run that was caught on cam. We even made a photo list of the worst parking jobs in Manila to remind drivers to brush up their parking skills.

Recently, another parking lot incident is attracting attention on social media. Shared on Facebook is a post by Chelsea Pecson regarding a car window getting smashed to what appears to be a robbery that happened in a paid parking lot somewhere in Mandaluyong City.

According to the victim’s post, “Last night, between 9:20pm and 12:30am in the paid parking owned by GREENFIELD DISTRICT, someone (or some people) smashed James’ car window and stole my bag.”

The full post is embedded below.

To our friends, family, and the people who work in Greenfield District:

Last night, between 9:20pm and 12:30am in the paid parking owned by GREENFIELD DISTRICT, someone (or some people) smashed James’ car window and stole my bag. Beside ours was another car whose window was also smashed. None of this was caught by the roving security guards on duty, handled by AUTOMATIC SECURITY AGENCY. Aside from the fact that we were parked in a private parking space right beside the MANDALUYONG POLICE STATION, we also parked in the most lighted area, right in the middle of two guard houses/exit booths.

About 10 policemen and security guards “came to our rescue”, led by SP02 MERVIN LOVEDIERO (Sector 5 ID 165028). All of which only suggested that we file a police report and call on more men to investigate the scene – as if it wasn’t as clear as day that the car was broken in and my bag was stolen.

I’m posting this because I know the power of social media and I hope this reaches the people of Greenfield District.

There are a couple of things I wan’t to raise here:

First, regardless of how private and secure Greenfield District may seem, they do not have any form of security measures or process of escalation to handle situations like this, further emphasized by hiring a highly unskilled and under-equipped security agency. I will never again trust this place or any other place under their name. I advise everyone not to buy any of their expensive condominiums because it looks like you’ll be watching out for yourselves anyway.

Second, the Mandaluyong police are incompetent, defenseless, and clueless. I still can’t pinpoint which I’m more frustrated about – the fact that people broke into our car or that the best thing a group of 10 police officers and security guards can do is make a police report for our insurance or say “papaimbistiga natin ‘to sa imbestigador”. There were ten of them and none had an ounce of urgency. It’s not that there are not enough policemen in our areas; it’s making quality of your numbered men.

Lastly, there is no safe place anymore and it’s a sad and very frustrating fact. Regardless if you’re parked in highly developed areas or not, it’s much better to be paranoid about your belongings and safety these days. Protect yourselves.

Here are some pictures of the ruined car. We weren’t able to take photos of it on-site given that we were both in a state of shock and were trying to get the help that we needed, which we have not received until today.

Behind all this frustration and above all else, I’m thankful that James and I are safe.

Spread this message and you might keep someone from harm today.
