BTS leader Kim Namjoon, also known as RM, was officially appointed as the public relations ambassador for South Korea’s Ministry of National Defense for its Killed in Action Recovery and Identification (MAKRI) division.
Following the confirmation of Big Hit Music of his appointment on May 31, a special ceremony was held a day later to mark another milestone for RM, just in time for his group’s upcoming 10th year anniversary.

MAKRI serves as the government agency’s unit responsible for recovering the remains of soldiers who fought in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 to be returned to their families.
As an ambassador, RM will be promoting the organization’s projects. “Considering that this is an important project for the nation, I will make efforts to promote meaningful activities by the agency at home and abroad,” he said in his speech.
The BTS member also expressed how his love for art galleries and museums helps in honoring and raising awareness of Korea’s ancient and modern art, which partake in his duties as an ambassador.

“I am proud of myself because I was able to participate in a meaningful event with everyone who is here today. I will do my best to help the excavation team,” he stated.
RM previously delivered a speech about self-love in 2018 at the United Nations and anti-Asian hate in 2022 at the White House, together with other BTS members.
