Disney+ just announced that it finally has a release date for its four-part unscripted documentary series starring Keanu Reeves about a man who led an independent Formula 1 team that, against the biggest titans of the racing industry, won the World Championship—after purchasing the team for only £1.
“Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story” will follow Keanu as he tells the remarkable story of how Ross Brawn made history in 2009 with his Brawn GP team, of which he was the team principal, that formed after a buyout of the Honda Racing F1 Team after they had pulled out in December 2008 due to the global financial crisis. Despite being understaffed and under-financed, Brawn GP proceeded to win eight of the season’s seventeen races. Their driver Jenson Button won the Drivers’ Championship while their second driver Rubens Barrichello placed third.
The Disney+ documentary will not only feature Brawn, Button, and Barrichello but also former Brawn GP CEO Nick Fry and current Team Principal of the Red Bull Formula One team Christian Horner. Fans will also get to go behind the scenes with the people who were there at that time—on the track, in the garage, and in the boardroom—and hear in their own words the magic that they witnessed.
This series is a North One production developed, written, and produced by showrunner Simon Hammerson with three-time BAFTA-winning executive producer Neil Duncanson and directed by 2022 Broadcast Best Sports Documentary winner Daryl Goodrich, with Keanu Reeves as host and executive producer.
All episodes of “Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story” will be available on Disney+ on November 15, 2023.
