ASTRO’s Journey Apart: Cha Eun-woo Enlists as Sanha Lights Up Manila

K-Pop sensations ASTRO continue to shine both as a group and through individual pursuits. Cha Eun-woo—actor-idol from True Beauty, My ID Is Gangnam Beauty, and A Good Day to Be a Dog—began his mandatory military service. On July 21, Eun-woo unveiled a new buzz cut on social media, symbolizing his enlistment transition. On July 28, he shared a celebration with friends.

Before enlistment, Eun-woo hosted “THE ROYAL,” a solo fan meeting at Kyung Hee University’s Grand Peace Hall on July 12. The event featured immersive VR performances, theatrical themes, and playful moments with props like a crown, devil wings, and a judge’s robe.

Meanwhile, ASTRO’s maknae, Yoon San-ha, released his second solo mini-album CHAMELEON on July 15. The album showcases his artistic growth with vibrant, summer-inspired tracks including “Aura,” “Bad Mosquito,” and the title song “Extra Virgin.” Critics have hailed it as a bold and genre-bending collection, reflecting San-ha’s fearless evolution as a solo performer.

San-ha also takes on his first leading role as Park Yoon-jae in the upcoming KBS2 romantic comedy My Girlfriend Is the Man!. Adapted from a beloved webtoon, the story follows Yoon-jae, an earnest astronomy major whose girlfriend Kim Ji-eun (played by Arin of OH MY GIRL) mysteriously wakes up one morning transformed into a man named Kim Ji-hoon (played by Yoo Jung-hoo). Yoon-jae stands by her side while assisting Ji-hoon through this bewildering new reality. Adding further complication, Kang Min-ju (portrayed by Chuu, formerly of LOONA), a fellow student, develops feelings for Yoon-jae. This quirky tale of identity, romance, and loyalty premieres on July 23, showcasing a charming ensemble of idol leads navigating a gender-bending campus romance.

Riding the wave of both music and acting momentum, San-ha is also launching his YOON SAN-HA FANCON [PRISM: from Y to A] world tour—with admiration for Cha Eun-woo’s unwavering work ethic serving as personal inspiration. The tour opens in Seoul (August 1–2), then travels to São Paulo, Santiago, Monterrey, Mexico City, Kobe, and Yokohama, before culminating in the Manila fan-con on August 24 at 6 PM, hosted at the SM North EDSA Skydome by L-Squared Productions.
