PUP Sining-Lahi Polyrepertory proudly presents its 44th theater season opening production, “ASOG.” Written by Charles Apos Lopez and directed by Istifen Dagang Kanal.

“ASOG” aims to raise awareness and provide education about the situation of indigenous communities in the Philippines. It features the story of the Babaylan, the spiritual leaders in pre-colonial Filipino culture, and the struggles faced by indigenous people, including how their land has been taken from them up to this day. The play also presents a different perspective by showing how a Gen Z youth is chosen to become a Babaylan, connecting traditional culture and beliefs with modern identity. Overall, the production highlights the role of women, youth, indigenous people, and their ancestral land.
This opening production of PUP Sining-Lahi Polyrepertory features Viena Marie Guyo and Elysiah Lingling, who bring the story to life through their roles.
As the show date approaches, preparations are ongoing to ensure a meaningful and engaging performance. From rehearsals to set design, every detail is carefully planned to effectively communicate the message of the play.
This opening production not only aims to entertain but also to inspire audiences to reflect on the importance of preserving indigenous culture.
“ASOG” will be staged at Tanghalang PUP, located at the PUP College of Communication in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Show schedules are set on April 14, 15, and 17, with performances at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
