Chatting Up a Storm with Allison Harvard and Suki Salvador
Before my one-on-one with Allison and Suki, she was interviewed by Our Local Mother Fierce, Divine Lee. I wasn’t able to get a sneak peak of her interview with Allison but I was able to catch up with her before she headed out the door.
After being interviewed by Divine, young fashionista blogger, Patricia Prieto then followed. Funnily, we were both wearing long-sleeved striped tops.
A few photo ops later, Gerard turned to me and said, “You’re next.” And then my nerves went all haywire. All sorts of crazy thoughts ran through my mind: What if I lose my words? What I get too intimidated? What if I lose focus? To add to my anxiety, Gerard said that the interview would be recorded on video. Oh, woe is me.
The show must go on, though, so I went up the platform and took a seat beside Allison and Suki who were waiting for me to get started. I mustered up whatever confidence I had in me and just tried to have a normal casual conversation with the both of them. My worst fears were forgotten and it was just so much fun chatting with them. Allison and Suki were really nice and they had a lot of funny and insightful anecdotes to say about their respective experiences in the fashion industry.
Allison is excited to be back for the third time in the Philippines since her first two visits were amazing, according to her. All the people were really nice and friendly and she found that everybody just had this positive and optimistic energy. Both Allison and Suki were quite excited about the Philippine fashion scene and the plethora of trends, styles and developments of our local fashion. “It’s just a great time to be in fashion!” Suki exclaims ecstatically.
When I asked about Allison Harvard for Mega Fashion Crew Reloaded, there isn’t much that I can say since I’ll have to be mum about the nitty-gritty details. All I know is that those contestants are in for some really tough challenges, what with all the amplified changes they made for the show. Bonne chance!
Finally, I had to ask Allison and Suki: What can you do to become unforgettable in the fashion industry, a world that’s ever changing and evolving? Allison simply says that you just need to create and work on something you know you will be proud of. What others would think or say won’t quite measure up to what you feel about what you’ve accomplished. “At the end of the day, you be the judge of whatever you do, and whether you’re happy about it or not.”
Being a Creative Director, Suki challenges fashion mongers to create and accomplish something that’s never been done before. Sure, most of fashion has been seen and done at one point, but it’s up to you to squeeze your creative juices and put your own daring twist to a certain trend or style.
Wrapping up my interview with the emblematic spiel of fangirling (“I’m such a big fan of yours ever since your ANTM days”), Allison gave me a hug that I still couldn’t decipher whether or not was real. It was such an amazing experience to have been able to meet all those incredible people and to get the chance to interact with the brains behind Mega Magazine and Allison Harvard for Mega Fashion Crew Reloaded.
I can’t pretend to be a fashionista, nor do I have the eye for decent style, but I highly admire Mega’s creative team and the way they’re able to turn fashion into something more than just utility.
Mega Magazine, a local toast of fashion, is expanding their horizons and turning fashion into art and providing challenges for this industry’s prospects to make it in the big leagues.
