A Filipino Movie Won Best Film at a Film Festival in Malaysia

We have another thing to proud of: Signal Rock, a film directed by Chito S. Rono, was recognized Best Film at the ASEAN International Film Festival & Awards in Kuching, Malaysia.

Signal Rock tells the story of Intoy, a young man who has to go to a rock formation in his hometown of Biri, Samar, to establish contact with his sister Vicky, who is in an abusive marriage in Finland. As Vicky’s marriage worsens, Intoy must find a way to save her, even if he lives in a province without any phone signal.

The film stars Christian Bables, Daria Ramirez, Nanding Josef, Mon Confiado, Elora Espano, Arnold Reyes, Dido Dela Paz, Mengie Cobarubias, Joel Saracho, Mara Lopez, Ruby Ruiz, Sue Prado, Jomari Angeles, Kokoy De Santos, and Francis Magundayao.

The film was released on August 15, 2018 as an official entry to the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino, where it won Critic’s Choice and the Special Jury Award. It was also the Philippines’ official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.

Apart from Signal Rock, Kristoffer King was awarded Best Male Actor for his role in Kristo and Barbara Miguel was recognized as Best Supporting Actress for 1-2-3.
