DOH calls for protected bicycle lanes after nurse’s hit-and-run accident

The Department of Health (DOH) called out on LGUs to roll out protected bicycle lanes after the death of Renz Jayson Perez. Perez is a nurse who was killed after a hit-and-run accident in Padre Burgos last August 23.

In a statement, the DOH said, “Mr. Perez’s untimely death only serves to amplify the call to protect our frontliners, most especially our healthcare workers, during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“We reiterate the call for local government units to roll out protected bicycle lanes as soon as possible,” the statement added. The DOH also called on LGUs to ensure that traffic violators are apprehended immediately.

With this, the Department reminded all road users “to be respectful and to share the road with other road users, particularly cyclists and pedestrians who are most vulnerable to accidents.”
