Scientists have confirmed the discovery of an Earth-sized planet by NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) using NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope. They named it ‘TOI 700 d’ and according to NASA’s YouTube channel, it is situated in the star’s habitable zone or the range of distances where it may be enough to allow the presence of liquid water on the planet’s surface.
TESS has reportedly observed ‘TOI 700’ – a small, cool M dwarf star – during the first year of its mission and scientists caught multiple transits by the star’s three planets. Among them is ‘TOI 700 d’, the outermost known planet in the system and the only one in the habitable zone. The planet is said to orbit its star every 37 days.

The exact conditions on ‘TOI 700 d’ are still unknown but scientists have reportedly used the current information that they have to model 20 potential environments for the planet in order to gauge if any of the versions would be suitable for habitability.
